DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?

You know it's over. Your body doesn't.

Trauma doesn't always look the way people expect. Sometimes it's one moment that split your life into before and after. Sometimes it's years of feeling unseen, unsafe, or never good enough. Either way, you might…

  • Feel your body brace before your mind even knows why.
  • Scan every room and every conversation for what could go wrong.
  • Avoid people, places, or memories to keep the feelings away.
  • Get pulled back by a sound, a smell, or a tone of voice.
  • Carry beliefs like “I'm not safe” or “I'm not enough,” even when you know better.
  • Feel worn out from being strong for so long.

Understanding why you react this way isn't the same as feeling free of it. That's where EMDR comes in.

HOW EMDR WORKS

Resolve stuck trauma in brain and body

Warm sunlight filtering through tall forest trees, evoking calm and grounded trauma resolution

When distressing events happen, they can get stuck in the nervous system in an unprocessed state. That's why an old memory can still feel like it's happening now.

Talk therapy helps you understand the past. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps your brain and body actually resolve it. Using guided bilateral stimulation, we help your nervous system desensitize distressing memories so the past stops dictating your present reactions.

The memory doesn't disappear. It just stops hurting the way it used to.

You don't have to tell me every detail for this work to help. You only have to be willing to notice what comes up. We'll take it from there, together.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What online EMDR actually looks like

EMDR adapts well to secure video. You won't be thrown into your hardest memories on day one. Here's how the work unfolds.

  1. Getting to know you

We talk about your history, what you want to feel differently, and which memories or triggers to focus on.

  2. Build your resources

Before touching anything painful, we practice grounding and calming skills so you always have a steady place to return to.

  3. Reprocess

You briefly bring a memory to mind while following bilateral stimulation: a visual cue on screen, gentle tapping, or tones through headphones. You set the pace and can pause anytime.

  4. Close & integrate

Every session ends with you grounded. Over time, the memory loses its charge and healthier beliefs about yourself take its place.

All you need: a private space, a stable internet connection, and headphones if you'd like to use audio tones.

AREAS OF FOCUS

What EMDR can help with

Single-event trauma

Accidents, sudden medical distress, unexpected loss, or an acute shock that still replays.

Relational & childhood wounds

Emotional neglect, chronic invalidation, and attachment distress that still shape how you relate to others.

Panic & hypervigilance

Sudden adrenaline surges, fight-or-flight reactions, and chronic tension your body can't seem to release.

Core negative beliefs

Persistent feelings of being unsafe, unworthy, or never good enough, no matter what you accomplish.

Compulsive urges (DeTUR)

DeTUR targets urges rather than memories, easing impulsive behaviors and shame-driven cycles that feel hard to interrupt.

Also struggling with OCD?

Intrusive thoughts and compulsions often respond best to ERP, and the two approaches can work together.

QUESTIONS ABOUT ONLINE EMDR

Answers to common questions about EMDR for trauma

Does virtual EMDR work as well as in-person EMDR?

Many clients find online EMDR effective, and some feel more at ease processing difficult memories in a space where they already feel safe. We'll talk about whether it's a good fit for you during your free consultation.

Will I have to relive my trauma?

No. You don't need to describe every detail out loud. You briefly hold a memory in mind while your brain does the processing, and you can pause at any time.

How does bilateral stimulation work over video?

You can follow a moving visual cue on your screen, tap gently on your own shoulders or knees, or listen to alternating tones through headphones. We'll find what feels most comfortable for you.

How long does EMDR take?

It depends on what we're working on. A single distressing event may resolve more quickly than long-standing relational or childhood wounds. We'll check in on your progress regularly so you always know where you stand.

Can I do online EMDR from anywhere in California?

Yes. As long as you're physically located in California during each session, we can work together from wherever you are in the state.

Is EMDR covered by insurance?

I'm an out-of-network provider. Many PPO plans, including Anthem, Aetna, Blue Shield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare, reimburse a portion of session fees once your deductible is met. I partner with Mentaya so you never have to file superbills or paperwork yourself. We can check your benefits before we start.

Your past shaped you. It doesn't have to keep running the show.

Start with a free, no-obligation 15-minute consultation. Ask your questions, share what you're hoping to change, and see if EMDR feels like the right fit.
